Xi´an (China) 30th April - World Economic Forum (WEF) convened a Special Meeting on Global Cooperation, Growth and Energy for Development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on April 28-29, 2024. Over 700 participants, including key stakeholders from governments, international organizations, business leaders, global youth leaders, experts, and innovators, gathered to discuss three core themes: the Compact for Inclusive Growth, Catalyzing Action on Energy Development, and Revitalizing Global Cooperation.

Li Zhenguo, Founder and President of LONGi, co-chaired and participated in several thematic events, including “The Roadmap to Tripling Renewables by 2030” and “Powering Up Together: Strengthening Cross-Regional Collaboration for the Energy Transition”, where he shared insights and advocacy for global energy equity and global cooperation.

In recent months, clean energy has experienced rapid growth, with global renewable energy capacity increasing by 50% in 2023 compared to the previous year. With a goal to triple renewable energy by 2030, discussions focused on leveraging this momentum to facilitate the energy transition rapidly and responsibly. On April 28th, Li Zhenguo attended “The Roadmap to Tripling Renewables by 2030” roundtable forum, discussing the goal with industry leaders and government officials.

Li Zhenguo emphasized China's role in the global new energy industry, citing the country's significant contributions to PV installations. He highlighted the need for global collaboration to achieve the goal of tripling renewable energy installations and achieving carbon neutrality, stressing the role of the private sector in reducing costs through technological innovation. He also discussed the vast market opportunities globally for new technologies, emphasizing their complementary nature in achieving energy transition goals.

During the meeting, Li Zhenguo participated in discussions with leaders from the Middle East and North Africa, ASEAN, as well as key policymakers and CEOs from China and the Global South, emphasizing the importance of rapid and large-scale energy transformation for a sustainable future.

Li Zhenguo highlighted the accessibility of solar energy worldwide, making it an easier source to obtain compared to others. As solar power becomes the most economical source of electricity in many regions, it offers sustainability, affordability, and security, providing greater opportunities for achieving energy equity and establishing greener and more stable energy systems for the developing countries and regions.

Last year, LONGi announced that it had been recognized by the World Economic Forum as a “Global Lighthouse Factory”, one of only 153 factories around the world with such recognition and the world’s first solar module factory listed. Behind this achievement is LONGi's persistent dedication to technological innovation and sustainable development. LONGi is undergoing organizational management reform and building digital capabilities to transform into a more customer-centric technology manufacturing and service enterprise.

In December 2023, the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was held in Dubai, where a roadmap for "Transitioning Away From Fossil Fuels" was agreed upon, providing direction for the development of global renewable energy. As an important component of renewable energy, the photovoltaic (PV) industry is facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges for development. “We look forward to playing a more proactive role in the global energy transition, contributing greater efforts to promote the widespread adoption and sustainable development of clean energy”, Li Zhenguo noted.
