LONGi, a global leader in the photovoltaic (PV) industry, has earned an ‘A-’ Leadership Level rating for Water Security from CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), a global non-profit environmental organization for the first time. This recognition makes LONGi the leading company in China's renewable energy and PV industry for water management. For the second year running, the company also achieved a 'B' climate change rating from CDP, which assesses over 9,500 companies worldwide on their climate change performance and transparency.
CDP and its scoring system
CDP is the world’s largest independent system for environmental disclosure, helping companies, investors, and governments manage their environmental impacts. The organization scores businesses across three key areas: Climate Change, Forests, and Water Security. These ratings are widely used to guide investment and procurement decisions and improve companies’ ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) performance.
In 2024, more than 3,600 Chinese companies disclosed data to CDP. According to a CDP report, six out of ten countries are at risk of unsustainable water usage by 2050, underscoring the need for urgent water management solutions.
LONGi completed 118 water-savings projects
LONGi implemented a comprehensive water management policy focusing on:
- Environmental compliance
- Water conservation as a priority
- Efficient water use
- Scientific governance
Each year, LONGi conducts a water usage inventory across its global factories using the World Resources Institute’s (WRI) water risk atlas. This data helps set conservation targets based on local water risk levels.
In 2023, LONGi completed 118 water-saving projects across its operations. By exploring alternative water sources and optimizing production processes, the company reduced its total water consumption by 12.75% year-on-year, saving 5.5 million tons of water annually. Compared to its baseline year, the company cut water use by 33.52%.
Since 2020, LONGi has participated in CDP’s Climate Change and Water Security questionnaires. The company’s recent achievement of Leadership Level in Water Security reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainable development.
