  • Targeted production capacity for HPBC 2.0 modules by end 2025: 50 GW

Frankfurt am Main, 29.01.2025 – LONGi, a global solar technology leader, launches its next-generation high-end back contact solar module in the Benelux region at InterSolutions, a leading European trade fair for solar energy in Ghent, Belgium. Based on LONGi's new HPBC 2.0 technology, the Hi-MO X10 is equipped with the company’s new proprietary n-type TaiRay wafer and Bipolar Hybrid Passivation Technology which brings significant improvements in efficiency, mechanical characteristics and reliability. In addition, it comes with 0BB-structure (zero-busbar), a multi-layer design for increased performance, as well as a shading optimizer technology that reduces the loss of power output by 70% compared to TOPcon modules. All in all, the Hi-MO X10 sets a new performance benchmark with a 670W power output, 24.8% module efficiency, and 26.6% cell efficiency. It outperforms conventional TOPCon modules by 30W. LONGi aims to achieve approximately 50GW production capacity for HPBC 2.0 modules by the end of 2025.

In the Benelux region the module is now available with 72 cells as dual glass version and with 54 cells as single glass version. Full black Hi-MO X10 modules will follow in Q2 2025.

Linda Huang, Deputy Head of the Western Europe Representative Office of Europe Business Center: “Hi-MO X10 distinguishes itself in the Benelux market by excelling in four critical areas: captivating aesthetics, unwavering reliability, robust performance, and unparalleled value. It offers 670W power output at 24.8% efficiency. Historically, the industry faced a challenging trade-off between high power output and safety concerns, particularly regarding fire risks. Hi-MO X10 shatters this paradigm, offering a comprehensive solution that delivers exceptional results across multiple dimensions without significant compromises. This product empowers customers with a well-rounded package that seamlessly integrates power, safety, and efficiency.

In addition, end-consumers from Benelux take special interest in aesthetics and performance in solar energy installations. Solar panels, as visible elements on rooftops or façades, are expected to blend seamlessly with traditional or modern home design in Belgium, adding to the overall aesthetic harmony. The Hi-MO X10 is the ideal solution for this. Its HPBC 2.0 back contact technology is unparalleled in its ability to cater to this specific need.”

Hi-MO X10 - Engineered to maximize reliability, cost-effectiveness, and long-lasting power output

With just 1% degradation in the first year and a 0.35% annual linear degradation rate, the module offers unmatched longevity. In addition, its power temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C delivers a 0.03% improvement over TOPCon modules, ensuring superior performance especially in hot climates.

HPBC 2.0 enhances solar module efficiency and reliability through a multi-layer structure designed for optimal performance:

  • Light absorption layer: Featuring a multi-layer anti-reflection film, this layer improves short-circuit current by 2.25%. The additionally improved uniformity of the micro texture reduces the reflection of short-wave light by 12%. Therefore, more sunlight is effectively captured.
  • Photovoltaic conversion layer: Leveraging Bipolar Hybrid Passivation Technology, this layer increases open-circuit voltage by 15mV to 745mV.
  • Uniform passivation: The implemented uniform passivation significantly reduces UV-induced degradation and boosts long-term efficiency.
  • Electric transmission layer: With the Bipolar Low Resistance Passivation Contacts and the inclusion of the shading optimizer technology, this layer reduces shading power losses by over 70% and lowers hotspot temperatures by 28%, ensuring enhanced safety and performance. Additionally, the special 0BB structure adds more module power output and reliability.

The zero-busbar structure significantly changes cell design and performance

The back contact manufacturing process has been upgraded through the implementation of a zero busbar (0BB) structure. LONGi is the first company worldwide to use 0BB on a back contact platform utilizing an intelligent soldering process to make the connections stronger than with conventional soldering. By directly connecting the ribbons to the fingers the energy transmission distance is reduced by 6.5%, adding an extra 5W to the module’s power output. This changed back contact structure also removes the shading of the busbars, enhancing aesthetics as well as its performance. Precision laser etching and advanced high transparency insulating materials further enhance performance by reducing leakage risks and improving light absorption.

LONGi’s TaiRay wafer drives a higher reliability and performance directly at the core of the modules

LONGi’s proprietary TaiRay wafer solves the long-standing challenges of silicon wafer limitations. With improved resistance distribution, fewer impurities, and a remarkable 16% increase in break resistance, this wafer is a key driver of the Hi-MO X10’s high performance. The performance increase and related benefits are the result of an improved Recharge Czochralski (RCz) process (crystal pulling method) used in the production of monocrystalline silicon ingots.

HPBC 2.0 is the start of a new era in back contact technology

LONGi’s HPBC 2.0 technology represents a leap in back contact solar modules, overcoming previous limitations in back contact (BC) cell designs and silicon wafer constraints. One of the major advancements by LONGi’s R&D between HPBC 1.0 and 2.0 is the 1% cell efficiency increase within only 2 years of development from 2022 to 2024. Another big step was LONGi’s change from P-Type to N-Type wafers.

LONGi's commitment to research and development to further improve its back contact technology continues unabated, resulting in several records in 2024. The latest record from October 2024 is especially significant because LONGi is the first Chinese solar technology company which has set the module efficiency world record since its recordings in 1988. With 25.4% LONGi is now leading the global module efficiency record list. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has updated its Champion Photovoltaic Module Efficiency Chart accordingly: https://www.nrel.gov/pv/module-efficiency.html

In May 2024, LONGi made history when its heterojunction back contact (HBC) solar cell achieved a new world record for photovoltaic conversion efficiency at 27.3%, certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH).

The Hi-MOX10 will be available in 54, 60 and 72 cell sizes in various versions with single and dual glass as well as full black editions.
