Company Brief - LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd.

2023.6.12

Overview

LONGi Solar is one of the world’s largest solar technology companies ranking first in global module shipments since 2020. It is a subsidiary of LONGi Green Energy Technology (LONGi) which was founded in 2000. LONGi has more than 60.000 employees, 30+ locations and 30 manufacturing sites globally. LONGi Europe is headquartered in Frankfurt. a. M.

The company established five business sectors covering mono silicon, wafers cells and modulescommercial and industrial distributed solar solutionsgreen energy solutions and hydrogen equipment to support global zero carbon development.

Since 2021, LONGi has broken the photovoltaic (PV) cell conversion efficiency record 14 times in a row. In 2022, LONGi set a new world record of p-type HJT silicon solar cell efficiency at 26.81% certified by the German Institut für Solarenergieforschung (ISFH) Institute for Solar Energy Research) in Hameln.

As the first Chinese solar manufacturer, LONGi joined the three distinguished climate initiatives RE100, EP100 and EV100. Under the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) LONGi set a 2030 target for emissions reduction that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent across its operations and productions compared to 2020 levels.

LONGi’s Milestones

  • LONGi pioneered the global technological revolution from polycrystalline to monocrystalline silicon which made it mass marketable, starting in 2005.
  • In 2011 the LONGi Research and Development Center was founded, and in 2022 the R&D investment was numbering 1,044 million US-Dollar (5.54 % of the operating income). Today LONGi has the highest R&C expenditures in the PV industry. For the first time in 2013, LONGi’s annual wafer shipments exceeded 1 GW.
  • 2015, LONGi entered the solar cell and module market and shortly after became the world’s No. 1 in shipping monocrystalline modules. LONGi steadily drove the efficiency improvement of Mono PERC cells. The further promotion of monocrystalline finally led to its mainstreaming and mass production and the launch of LONGi’s Hi-MO 1 in 2016.
  • From 2017 to 2019 LONGi took the industry lead in standardizing wafer size and achieving 100 % diamond wire cutting of mono silicon wafers.
  • Since April 2021 LONGi has broken the photovoltaic (PV) cell conversion efficiency record 14 times in a row.
  • In 2022, the high-efficiency HPBC technology found it’s way into the all new Hi-MO 6 series. Just in time for the world’s gigawatt era when LONGi shipped a total of 85.06 GW monocrystalline silicon wafers and 46.76 GW of modules, having been ranked first in global module shipments since 2020.
  • LONGi expects to expand the production capacity in 2023 to 190 GW of wafers, and 130 GW of silicon modules.
  • Today LONGi has more than 60.000 employees in 30+ locations and 30 manufacturing sites in more than 150 countries and regions globally.

LONGi’s Mission for Sustainability & Energy Transition

  • In 2021 LONGI published its first Sustainability Report and Climate Report.
  • 2022 marks the year for LONGi to turn the concept of “solar” into an overarching sustainability concept expressed by “Solar for Solar”, standing for a zero-carbon future, and “Solar for all”, making solar energy accessible for everyone.
  • In 2022, all LONGi subsidiaries have obtained the ISO 14001 environmental management system certification. 17 bases received the ISO 50001 energy management system certification.
  • In 2023, LONGi introduced the sustainable Development Philosophy of LONGi-LIGHT. It is based on the mission to “make the best of solar energy to build a green world” and is interlinked with the UN’s SDGs to promote energy equity and ensure access to solar-powered energy for all. LONGi’s goal: to be the lead for the clean energy world to make energy affordable and accessible for all.
