LONGi has been awarded the Silver Sustainability Rating by EcoVadis, the international authoritative corporate social responsibility (CSR) assessment platform. This accolade signifies LONGi's performance in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and sustainability development.

The EcoVadis medals and badges are awarded to companies that have completed the EcoVadis assessment process and have demonstrated a relatively strong management system that takes into account the sustainability criteria set out in the EcoVadis methodology. The eligibility criteria for medals and badges are reviewed regularly.

The silver rating places LONGi in the top 15 percent companies rated by EcoVadis and was earned through EcoVadis’ assessment in four categories: environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

EcoVadis is a global rating platform that specializes in assessing companies' environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. Its methodology is built on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and the ISO 26000, covering 220+ spend categories and 180+ countries.

“The Silver Sustainability Rating from EcoVadis is a significant acknowledgement of LONGi's ESG performance and commitment to sustainable development. At the same time, it encourages us to further increase our efforts to promote green energy technology innovation and contribute to global greenhouse gas emission reduction targets", said Ali Salman, ESG Manager for LONGi in Europe.

LONGi has ambitious sustainability targets until 2030

LONGi detailed its sustainable development strategy and commitments in its 2023 Climate Action White Paper. The company also joined climate initiatives such as RE100, EP100, EV100, and participated in the SBTi, becoming the first Chinese company to join the four global initiatives all together. From 2012 to 2022, the company produced a total of 290GW of photovoltaic products, generating over 114 billion kWh of clean electricity. When calculated using the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s Emission Factors, LONGi had helped prevent 536 million tons of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to 1.46% of 2022’s global energy-related carbon emissions.

In 2023, LONGi outlined its SBTi near-term target which is to reduce GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions within the operational boundary by 60% from 2020 levels by 2030; carbon emissions of unit silicon material, cell and glass will be reduced by at least 20% from 2020 levels. Last year, LONGi's near-term target was approved by the SBTi and is in line with the 1.5℃ target of the Paris Agreement.

Producing green energy from green energy is LONGi’s guiding principle

LONGi follows the concept of “Solar for Solar”, which promotes and supports the idea of producing green energy with green energy, thereby significantly reducing the carbon footprint in the production process. One of LONGi’s test fields for this concept is its “Zero Carbon Factory” located in Baoshan. In 2023, 99.09% of the electricity consumed by the factory came from renewable sources.

The Zero Carbon Factory poses the beginning of a “Zero Carbon LONGi”.
