The communities of Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira, in Rio de Janeiro, pioneered the implementation of a solar energy cooperative.
The Percília e Lúcio Cooperative project, supported by the NGO Revolusolar and started in 2021, uses 60 LONGi panels to generate energy credits for dozens of families. To ensure the sustainability of the project, the cooperative trained residents as installers of solar energy and promoted educational and cultural activities that ensured the participation of residents in the installation of the system.
In three years, the system produced 70,425 kWh, generating energy for 50 families and avoiding 7 tons of CO2. The annual savings estimated at R$ 80,000 in the electricity bill continue to be invested in a community fund to expand the project and benefit more families.
