At the Forum Neue Energiewelt (Forum Solarpraxis), which took place from Nov. 16-17 in Berlin, LONGi Solar, the world’s largest vertically integrated monocrystalline silicon cell/module manufacturer, introduced its mono perc and bifacial technology, which marks its achievements in pioneering PV 3.0 era.

It became clear that PERC module technology is fast becoming the industry standard and bifacial modules are no longer seen as a niche product, however, both technologies were scrutinised from the perspective of bankability and quality assurance studies throughout the event.

“The bifacial modules extend the strengths of mono PERC to the backside of the module. They boast higher power and higher energy yield with lower costs, which will help decrease the LCOE and bring higher returns for PV power plant investors.” Says Gerald Mueller General manager of LONGi Solar Germany. The bifacial module has already been in mass production.

Starting a new chapter of solar energy, it was estimated LONGi Solar could reach around 24.5% conversion efficiency on a PERC based on mass production technology, breaking its own recently announced records of 22.71%, verified by Fraunhofer ISE CalLab and 23.26%, verified by CPVT in China.

LONGi Solar believes modules with mono cells will make up over half of all module capacity by 2020, providing around 61GW of supply, and that most of the modules would be using mono cells with PERC technology.

By the end of 2018, LONGi Solar Wafer’s capacity will be 25GW and module capacity will be 10GW, Mr Mueller promised that “LONGi Solar will become the porter and amplifier of green energy”.
