2025.12.11

Colombia, December 11 -La Esperanza, Norte de Santander — Colombia recently celebrated the inauguration of Pétalo del Norte I, the country’s first solar project developed under international standards and one of the most significant recent milestones for the national energy transition. With an installed capacity of 19.9 MW and equipped with LONGi’s Hi-MO 7 photovoltaic modules, the project represents a major step forward in the adoption of next-generation technologies for cleaner and more efficient electricity generation.

Located in La Esperanza, Norte de Santander, Pétalo del Norte I will produce more than 43 GWh of clean energy per year, enough to supply over 32,000 people and avoid approximately 13,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. During its construction phase, the project generated 270 direct jobs, with 64% local participation and a remarkable 30% female workforce, underscoring the sector’s commitment to sustainable development and social inclusion.

This project is the first in Latin America to reach commercial operation under the backing and principal investment of Climate Fund Managers (CFM), with the support of the European Union, establishing a financing model that drives high-impact renewable infrastructure. Additionally, Erco Energía served as the developer, local partner, and contractor, while Andina Solar oversaw project management and administration. Pétalo del Norte I will operate under a 15-year PPA signed with an independent trader, ensuring long-term operational stability.

The inauguration of Pétalo del Norte I marks a decisive step for the expansion of solar energy in Colombia and stands as a strong example of international collaboration aimed at decarbonization—an effort in which LONGi remains firmly committed to building a brighter future.
