Multi-Project Collaboration Reinforces Back Contact Innovation as the Future of Utility-Scale Solar

Athens- May 7, 2025 - LONGi , the world’s leading solar technology company, has secured a series of strategic agreements in Southern Europe, including over 580MW deployment of its Hi-MO 9 modules across multiple utility-scale solar projects. These collaborations, among the largest BC (back contact) technology initiatives in the region, underscore LONGi’s pivotal role in accelerating Europe’s transition to high-efficiency, sustainable energy solutions.

The agreements span three utility-scale projects deploying LONGi’s flagship Hi-MO 9 modules and one project utilizing Hi-MO 7 technology, collectively forming a critical part of Southern Europe’s renewable energy expansion. The Hi-MO 9 deployments leverage the module’s industry-leading power output (up to 670W) and conversion efficiency (24.8%), optimized for diverse terrains ranging from sun-drenched plains to mountainous regions. These projects align with national energy strategies targeting 80% renewable electricity generation by 2030, reinforcing LONGi’s commitment to delivering tailored solutions for Europe’s evolving energy landscape.

“Southern Europe’s renewable energy potential is immense, and LONGi is honoured to contribute to this transformation. By combining global R&D excellence with local expertise, we’re setting new benchmarks for efficiency and reliability, ensuring solar remains at the heart of Europe’s energy transition.” said Leon Zhang, President of LONGi Europe.

The Hi-MO 9 projects alone are projected to generate over 610GWh of clean electricity annually, offsetting more than 320,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions—equivalent to planting 5 million trees. This initiative reinforces LONGi’s leadership in driving Europe’s solar revolution, with BC technology now powering some of the continent’s most ambitious renewable ventures.

“These collaborations mark a defining moment for BC technology’s adoption in Europe. Hi-MO 9’s unparalleled performance in demanding environments proves that solar innovation can transcend geographical and technical challenges. We are proud to support our partners in achieving their sustainability goals while advancing Europe’s collective vision for a zero-carbon future.” stated Francesco Emmolo, General Manager Italy & Greece of LONGi.

Why Hi-MO 9? Redefining Utility-Scale Solar

Hi-MO 9’s back contact architecture maximizes the utility scale projects LCOE and DC capacity in limited land space. Hi-MO 9 achieves higher yield by pro-elimination front-side shading, achieving 24.8% module conversion efficiency—a critical advantage for maximizing energy yield in Southern Europe’s mixed climates. Its robust design ensures long-term durability against temperature fluctuations and environmental stressors, while the ultra-high-power density minimizes land use, aligning with Europe’s focus on ecological preservation.

These initiatives exemplify LONGi’s ability to forge partnerships that blend technological leadership with regional execution excellence. As BC technology gains momentum across Europe, LONGi remains committed to driving innovation that empowers developers, utilities, and communities to achieve their decarbonization goals.
